What is Bear Email MCP?

Bear Email MCP is a private-beta tool from Humanity Media that helps our clients spend less time on email and scheduling. It connects securely to your Google Account and lets an AI assistant draft replies, summarize threads, propose meeting times, and create calendar events — all on your direction, with you reviewing every message before it sends.

The "MCP" in the name stands for Model Context Protocol — an open standard, originally introduced by Anthropic, that lets AI assistants connect to outside tools and data sources in a controlled, auditable way. Bear Email MCP is the bridge between your Gmail/Calendar and the AI assistant you choose to use it with.

Who it's for

Bear Email MCP is currently invitation-only and offered exclusively to existing Humanity Media clients. We are intentionally keeping the beta small while we refine the product, gather feedback, and complete Google's app verification process.

What it does

  • Drafts email replies — give the assistant a thread or a quick instruction and it produces a draft saved to your Gmail "Drafts" folder for you to review.
  • Sends, only when you say so — nothing leaves your inbox unless you explicitly direct the tool to send.
  • Reads your calendar availability — the assistant can look at your free/busy windows when proposing meeting times.
  • Creates and updates calendar events — at your direction, the assistant can put events on your calendar and send invitations.
  • Summarizes long threads — quickly catch up on what a conversation is about without reading every message.

How the connection works

Bear Email MCP connects to your Google Account using Google's standard OAuth 2.0 flow — the same secure consent screen you've seen for any third-party app that connects to Google. You'll be shown exactly which permissions are being requested and you can revoke them at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

The OAuth scopes Bear Email MCP requests are:

  • Gmail compose / send (gmail.compose and/or gmail.send) — to create drafts and, with your direction, send them.
  • Google Calendar (calendar) — to read your availability and create or modify events you ask for.

We request the minimum scopes needed for the features above and nothing more.

How your data is handled

  • Limited Use. Bear Email MCP's use of information from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
  • No selling, no advertising. We do not sell your data and we do not transfer it for advertising or remarketing.
  • No AI training. Your Gmail or Calendar content is never used to train AI models — neither ours nor any third party's. Content is sent to a large-language-model provider (such as Anthropic or OpenAI) only for the brief moment needed to generate a draft, then it's gone.
  • No human reads your mail. Humanity Media staff do not read your Gmail or Calendar content, except in the narrow circumstances spelled out in our Privacy Policy (your specific consent, security investigation, or legal compliance).
  • Encrypted at rest. The OAuth refresh tokens that let the tool act on your behalf are stored encrypted on AWS infrastructure and are deleted within seven days of you disconnecting.

You stay in control

  • Drafts are saved to your Gmail Drafts folder. Nothing is sent without your direction.
  • You can revoke access instantly at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
  • You can email [email protected] at any time to ask us to disconnect, delete tokens, or remove your account.
  • The beta is opt-in only — we won't connect anything to your Google Account unless you've personally granted consent through Google's OAuth screen.

Beta status

Bear Email MCP is in active development. While we test, you may see occasional bugs, slow responses, or AI-generated drafts that need editing — please review every draft before sending. We'd love to hear what's working and what isn't; feedback from the beta is what shapes the next version.

By using Bear Email MCP you agree to our Terms and Conditions and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. The Terms include the formal authorization grant by which you consent to Bear Email MCP acting on your behalf to draft emails, send messages at your direction, and manage your calendar.
